भारत सरकार के पेट्रोल और डीजल पर केंद्रीय उत्पाद शुल्क 5 और 10 रुपये कम करने के बाद देश के 22 राज्यों और केंद्रशासित प्रदेशों ने पेट्रोल और डीजल के वैट में कमी की है। जबकि 14 राज्यों ने कमी करने से इंकार कर दिया है। पेट्रोल की कीमतों में सबसे ज्यादा कमी कर्नाटक में हुई है, इसके बाद पुडुचेरी और मिजोरम में भी कटौती कर कीमतों में कमी की गई। सरकार ने एक बयान जारी कर कहा कि इन राज्यों में पेट्रोल की कीमतों में 13.35 रुपये, 12.85 रुपये और 12.62 रुपये की कमी आई है।
14 राज्यों ने किया वैट कम करने से इंकार
वहीं डीजल के मामले में सबसे ज्यादा कटौती कर्नाटक सरकार ने की है। सरकार ने डीजल की कीमतों में 19.49 रुपये प्रति लीटर की कमी है। बता दें कि 22 राज्यों और केंद्र प्रशासित राज्यों में पेट्रोल की कीमतों में 8.7 रुपये प्रति लीटर और डीजल की कीमतों में 9.52 रुपये प्रति लीटर तक की अतिरिक्त कमी की गई है। 14 राज्यों ने वैट में कटौती करने से इंकार किया है। इन राज्यों का कहना है कि हाल के सालों में केंद्र द्वारा उठाए गए विभिन्न कदमों के कारण राज्यों को अपने स्वायत्त राजकोषीय में नुकसान झेलना पड़ा है।

सरकार को झेलनी पड़ी थी आलोचना
बता दें कि 5 मई, 2020 को सरकार के उत्पाद शुल्क को रिकॉर्ड स्तर तक बढ़ाने के फैसले के बाद से पेट्रोल की कीमत में कुल वृद्धि 38.78 रुपये प्रति लीटर थी। इस दौरान डीजल के दाम 29.03 रुपये प्रति लीटर बढ़े हैं। ईंधन की कीमतों में निरंतर तेजी की वजह से मौजूदा सरकार को आलोचनाओं का सामना करना पड़ा था। कांग्रेस सरकार ने केंद्र पर जमकर निशाना साधा था। बीते मार्च से ही लगातार पेट्रोल और डीजल की कीमतों में तेजी देखी गई थी। ईंधन का दाम बढ़ने से फल-सब्जियों से लेकर कच्चा माल तक महंगा हो गया था।
