ऑक्सफोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी और एस्ट्राजेनेका द्वारा तैयार कोरोना वैक्सीन ‘कोविशील्ड’ वैक्सीन का परीक्षण कर रहे सीरम इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ इंडिया (सीआईआई) पर एक गंभीर आरोप लगया गया है। आरोप ये है कि ऑक्सफोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी और एस्ट्राजेनेका द्वारा तैयार कोरोना वैक्सीन चेन्नई में परीक्षण के दौरान 1 अक्टूबर को 40 वर्षीय साल के एक व्यक्ति को लगाई गई। परिणामस्वरूप 10 दिन बाद उसे दिमागी संबंधी तकलीफ होना शुरू हुई जिसके बाद व्यक्ति ने अपनी पत्नी और बच्चे को पहचानने से मना कर दिया। इसके बाद परिवार वालो ने गुस्से में आकर परीक्षण पर सवाल उठाते हुए आइसीएमआर के महानिदेशक, सीरम इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ इंडिया, ड्रग कंट्रोलर डीन को नोटिस भेज मानसिक शारीरिक रूप से हुई क्षति और व्यक्ति के इलाज के लिए पांच करोड़ रुपये के मुआवजे की मांग की।
जवाब में सीरम इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ इंडिया यानी कि सीआईआई ने सारे आरोपों को खारिज करते हुए अपने बचाव में एक बयान जारी किया। जिसमें कहा गया है कि – कोविशील्ड पूरी तरह सुरक्षित और इम्युनोजेनिक है। वैक्सीन परीक्षण के दौरान चेन्नई के प्रतिभागी के साथ कोई हादसा नहीं हुआ है। सभी विनियामक और नैतिक प्रक्रियाओं और दिशानिर्देशों का पालन किया गया। युवक के आरोप पर मुख्य जांचकर्ता, डीएसएमबी और आचार समिति ने कहा कि प्रतिभागी को हुई समस्या का वैक्सीन परीक्षण से संबंध नहीं था। कंपनी की प्रतिष्ठा को सुरक्षित रखने के लिए कानूनी नोटिस भेजा गया था, जिसे गलत तरीके से पेश किया जा रहा है। कंपनी को प्रतिभागी की चिकित्सा स्थिति को लेकर चिंता थी, लेकिन वह वैक्सीन परीक्षण पर अपनी चिकित्सा समस्याओं के लिए झूठा आरोप लगा रहा था।
साथ ही बयान में ये भी कहा गया कि – मेडिकल टीम ने पहले ही प्रतिभागी को इस बात की जानकारी दी थी कि उसकी चिकित्सा समस्या का वैक्सीन परीक्षण से कोई लेना-देना नहीं है। कंपनी ने आरोप लगाया कि इसके बावजूद प्रतिभागी का सार्वजनिक जाकर बयान देना पैसे ऐंठने के लिए था। कंपनी की छवि धूमिल करने के प्रयास को लेकर वह प्रतिभागी से 100 करोड़ रुपये के हर्जाने की मांग कर सकती है।
