देश की जानेमाने एयरलाइन कंपनी IndiaGo के को-फाउंडर राकेश गंगवाल ने भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान-कानपुर IIT-Kanpur को 100 करोड़ रुपये दिए हैं। संस्थान को अब तक किसी पूर्व छात्र से दान में मिली यह सबसे ज्यादा रकम है। यह राशि संस्थान में बन रहे एसएमआरटी (स्कूल ऑफ मेडिकल रिसर्च एंड टेक्नोलॉजी) के निर्माण में मदद के लिए दी गई है। यह स्कूल आईआईटी-कानपुर के परिसर में ही स्थापित किया जाएगा।
आईआईटी कानपुर के छात्र रहे गंगवाल इस स्कूल के सलाहकार बोर्ड में भी शामिल होंगे। उन्होंने कहा कि संस्थान के साथ इस तरह के नेक प्रयास से जुड़ना उनके लिए सौभाग्य की बात है। यह देखकर अच्छा लग रहा है कि जिस संस्थान ने विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में हजारों प्रतिभाशाली लोग पैदा किए हैं, वह अब स्वास्थ्य सेवा क्षेत्र में मार्ग प्रशस्त कर रहा है। यह स्कूल दो चरणों में बनकर तैयार होगा। पहले चरण में लगभग 8,10,000 वर्ग फुट के कुल निर्मित क्षेत्र के साथ 500 बेड वाला सुपर-स्पेशियलिटी अस्पताल, अकादमिक ब्लॉक, आवासीय/छात्रावास और सर्विस ब्लॉक तैयार किया जाएगा।
इंजीनियरिंग के साथ मेडिकल की पढ़ाई
आईआईटी कानपुर के डायरेक्टर प्रोफेसर अभय करंदीकर ने ट्वीट कर कहा कि पैसा मिलने से यह प्रोजेक्ट अब जल्दी पूरा हो जाएगा। पहले चरण में करीब 500 करोड़ खर्च होंगे। एसएमआरटी के तहत संस्थान में 500 बेड का मल्टी सुपरस्पेशियलिटी हॉस्पिटल भी खुलेगा। अब आईआईटी में इंजीनियरिंग के साथ मेडिकल की भी पढ़ाई होगी। मेडिकल सेक्टर की जरूरतों के मुताबिक रिसर्च इक्विपमेंट भी विकसित किए जाएंगे। साथ ही इस संस्थान में गंभीर बीमारियों का इलाज भी होगा।
गंगवाल ने आईआईटी कानपुर से साल 1975 में मैकेनिकल इंजीनियरिंग में बीटेक किया था। प्रोफेसर करंदीकर ने मुंबई में गंगवाल से मुलाकात की थी। इसके बाद गंगवाल ने के लिए मदद की घोषणा की। पहले चरण में कार्डियोलॉजी, यूरोलॉजी, कार्डियोथोरेसिक, नेफ्रोलॉजी, सर्जिकल गैस्ट्रोइंट्रोलॉजी, न्यूरोलॉजी, न्यूरोसर्जरी और आंकोलॉजी समेत कई पीजी पाठ्यक्रम की पढ़ाई होगी। न्यूरोलॉजी, ऑर्थोपेडिक, लिवर, किडनी व कैंसर के इलाज के लिए इंजीनियरिंग की मदद से उपकरण भी विकसित किए जाएंगे। दूसरे चरण में एमबीबीएस में दाखिला होगा।
